Kilmurray First Holy Communion Sun 25th May 2014

This was the special day in Kilmurray Parish for Kilmurray and Castleplunkett  National Schools. Fr Larney Shine was the main celebrant at the ceremony. I had a chat with him before it started and I found him a gentleman. All the children enjoyed the ceremony and they all participated in the different things that happened during it. Fr Shine invited everybody over to the hall afterwards, all the children seemed to enjoy the day.

Roscommon V Leitrim Dr Hyde Park Sun 18th May 2014

I had the job of recording this football game in the Dr Hyde Park on sun 18th May.Roscommon never trailed as they brushed aside the challenge of neighbours Leitrim to book a Connacht semi-final date with Mayo on June 8.
John Evans’ men used wind advantage to maximum effect in the opening half and struck a massive blow just before the break when Ronan Stack fisted home a goal after a good passing movement.
That put Roscommon 1-12 to 0-5 in front at the interval, but Leitrim never gave up and with captain Emlyn Mulligan leading the way, they battled back in the second-half.
Indeed, Leitrim outscored the home side by 0-8 to 0-6 in the second-half but the damage had been done before that.
Senan Kilrbride and Ciaran Murtagh were in superb form for Roscommon in the opening half and they kicked five points between them.
All of Leitrim’s points in the opening half came from frees with Mulligan getting three and Conor Beirne landing a brace.
But their hopes suffered another blow six minutes from the break when influential midfielder Darren Sweeney received a black card for a late challenge.
Leitrim started to claw their way back into the game in the third quarter and Kevin Conlon hit two long range frees and Mulligan got another one to reduce the margin to 1-13 to 0-9 after 46 minutes.
However, Leitrim needed a goal to get back into contention and that never looked like coming as Roscommon defended solidly.
Roscommon manager John Evans brought several of his successful U21 side on in the second-half and they extended their lead when half-back Niall Daly got his second point and Donie Shine hit a fine effort from play.
Mulligan led another revival by Leitrim with three points in succession to leave just five points between them with eight minutes left, but they couldn’t get in a for a goal.
And Roscommon countered to advance to the semi-finals with two points from Diarmuid Murtagh and one from sub Craig Burns.

Kilmovee First  Holy Communion Sunday 10th May 2014.  I went down to Kilmovee National School during the week to record the children saying a few words also playing football in the yard. The were all dressed up and this really added to the occasion for them all. The principal Deirdre Meehan was a great help in organizing the occasion. The ceremony was performed by Fr Vincent Sherlock and he is so easy to work with.

Sharon & Darrel Wedding Day Sat 10th May 2014

The wedding was in Balygar church to day. We first went to the Bride’s Home and then the Groom’s the biggest family in a long time nine in all. When I arrived I got the job of putting on the Windsor ties. Just thinking these were all the go when I was their age, not anymore. The ceremony was conducted by my old friend Fr Michael Breslin, he mentioned that I knew when he was ordained forty years ago because I was at it. The rain came down in buckets, lucky this happened when we were in the church, Then we all hit away to the Shamrock Lodge in Athlone for the reception, they had the speeches before the meal which is a good idea.

I would like to wish Sharon and Darrel a long and Happy Life Together.

Georgina & Pat Wedding Day Fri 9th May 2014. This wedding ceremony was in Letterfrack the fare side of Lennane, it was a two hour journey and the scenery over that part of the world is really beautiful. The Groom Pat wished to be married in this church because his uncle built the church back in the 1960’s. The ceremony was at 2.30 and the bride traveled from Claremorris, got caught behind a tractor so that made her late. The ceremony was very nice and then back to Westport for the reception in the Westport Woods Hotel. This is a beautiful hotel and the staff were very nice.

I would like to wish Georgina and Pat a long and happy life together.

Michelle & Enda Wedding Day Sat 3rd May 2014. This wedding was in Ballyforan Church and The Galway Bay Hotel. We started the day with the Bride Michelle up and down the road on a Ford Tractor 1966 restored to pristine condition by her brother Tom, the tune used in the background do you think my tractor sexy. In the transport box we had the two bridesmaids. The day went very well and the Galway Bay put on a good show, a good idea they had the break between the band finishing and the disco. Enda is from Granard and both sides mixed very well he gave a great speech, he will certainly enjoy it being played back on the video.

I would like to wish Michelle and Enda a long and happy life together,
